Beer Industry Veteran Plays Prominent Role in Groundbreaking Film Documentary
Boston, MA April 2, 2009 – Rhonda Kallman, founder and CEO of New Century Brewing Company, is featured in Beer Wars: Brewed in America, a groundbreaking documentary to be shown in 440 theatres for one day – April 16, 2009. The film delivers a behind-the-scenes, no-holds-barred exploration of the U.S. beer business. Kallman generously shares her insider’s perspective throughout the film and provides a glimpse into the daily battles and all-out wars that dominate this enigmatic $100 billion industry.
“Anyone who enjoys a beer brewed with high quality ingredients and standards will want to see this film,” said Kallman. Consumers need to know how America’s beer industry is using its might to boost profits by eradicating the businesses of creative and passionate craftsmen and women.”

Beer Wars tells how corporate behemoths are using their muscle to try to snuff-out small, independent brewers who are shunning the status quo and creating innovative new beers. Kallman, 25-year industry veteran who is also the co-founder of The Boston Beer Company, makers of Samuel Adams, is one of two brewing entrepreneurs  most prominently profiled. Kallman produces two distinctive beers and faces the daunting task of making a dent in a market  dominated by two companies that control 95% of the malt beverages sold in America. The documentary shares the quest of Kallman and others to achieve the American Dream. Beer Wars filmmaker Anat Baron’s interest in the beer industry came from her experience as general manager of Mike’s Hard Lemonade, where she was exposed to the cut-throat business practices of the dominant breweries.

Kallman, whose company produces Edison, a light beer made with all natural ingredients and Moonshot ‘69, the original premium beer with caffeine is long-known and well-recognized as a female pioneer in a male-dominated industry. But it was Kallman’s energy and tenacity however, that caught the attention and inspiration of Baron.  It was those same characteristics that Kallman, a consummate warrior, drew upon to wage a battle with breast cancer this past year.
Beer Wars: Brewed in America will air simultaneously in 440 theaters across the nation on April 16, 2009, and will be followed by a 30-minute live discussion with Kallman and a panel of other beer experts hosted by know-it-all pundit Ben Stein. The panel will answer questions sent in advance by the live audience. Visit www.beerwarsmovie.com to purchase tickets or find a theatre near you.
