Dec. 5 Repeal Prohibition Parade Celebrates 75 Years of Drinking

WHAT:
Repeal Prohibition Parade and celebration (Repealebration?) commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition (aka, the 21st Amendment)

WHEN:
Friday, Dec. 5, 4:00 p.m.

WHERE:
Justin Herman Plaza to 21st Amendment Brewery, 563 2nd Street, San Francisco (Where else?)
(map of parade route )

WHY:
On December 5, 1933, after 13 long years of bad homebrew and bathtub gin, the 21st Amendment was officially ratified, ending Prohibition in America. At 21st Amendment, we think this is a great excuse for a Parade and a Party, not that we really need one.

WHO:
21st Amendment Brewery www.21st-amendment.com is hosting the march and post-prohibition party. Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan, (founders of 21st Amendment) will be available for interviews, in costume. In addition, the parade will be led the Green Street Mortuary Band and by two Grand Marshals who will be turning 21 and 75 on December 5, 2008. (We’re offering a birthday bounty !)

HOW:
REPEAL PROHIBITION PARADE: Repeal Prohibition Parade will begin at Justin Herman Plaza, follow Market Street South, turn left onto 2nd Street and continue to 21st Amendment Brewery, located at 2nd and Brannan. Parade route is 1.1 miles, and we plan to arrive at 21st Amendment by 5:00 p.m., for happy hour.

REPEAL PROHIBITION PARTY: The Repealebration Celebration at 21st Amendment Brewery will feature prohibition-era drinks and menu items, commemorative “Beerly Legal Lager,” plus a “speakeasy” that requires a password to enter. Passwords are hidden throughout the city. Participants may find geo-coordinates for locating the nearest password at http://21st-Amendment.blogspot.com or http://twitter.com/21stamendment, starting Dec. 1.

MEDIA VISUALS:
Participants in period costumes marching down Market Street, Green Street Mortuary Brass Band, “We Want Beer” signs, prohibition-era banners, confused onlookers

MEDIA AUDIO:
Chanting celebrators, marching band, plus interviews with Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan, founders of 21st Amendment Brewery, and two Grand Marshals, who are turning 21 and 75 on December 5, 2008.
